Why We Built The Backcountry Cardiac Xpore 3L Touring Jacket

"It's obvious that every single detail was carefully designed with touring in mind. It's hard to pick a favorite feature of this jacket, but I most appreciate the roomy, easy-to-access pockets, the exaggerated high-low hem, and the half-drop hood." —Gearhead® Expert Sam

We wanted a hardshell that knows how to climb just as well as it knows how to shred, and so we created the Backcountry Cardiac Xpore 3L Touring Jacket. The articulated fit and high-low hem release our shoulders and hips from restrictions as we power up the mountain, while the sleeve vents expel excess heat, and the grid-tricot-backed collar and chin guard shield our face from icy crosswinds without the chafe. As we transition, we slip our skins inside one of the front, backpack-friendly pockets to keep them from freezing up on the descent, and we cinch the hem and hood tight for powder-spray protection throughout our hard-earned turns. Performance aside, we also made sure this shell was constructed with recycled fabrics and a PFAS-free* eco-nanoporous membrane to protect nature's playgrounds.

About The Backcountry Brand

Backcountry began in 1996 with two skiers, a stack of avalanche beacons, and a garage in Park City, Utah. Our roots were humble, and we've grown since then, but our vision is still clear: to sell the best outdoor gear—and to create gear that’s even better through our very own gear and apparel brand.

Tons of features + loving the xpore

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

I seriously love this kit. The color-blocking is super cool, and all the technical features are awesome. Pockets are big enough for skins and softflasks or a nalgene. Super lightweight, perfect for backcountry skiing. The Xpore is so cool-such a supple and soft hand feel, while performance is perfect.

High quality shell. Loads of pockets and little touches (like a leashed google cleaning cloth in one of the chest pockets) are appreciated. I consistently get compliments on the kit while on the mountain.
