XT BR-M8120 Disc Brake delivers powerful, precise control for aggressive trail riding
What Our Gearhead® Experts Are Saying:
“I’ve run these on everything from enduro bikes to trail rigs—they’re bulletproof. The 4-piston power and Servo-Wave feel give me instant confidence on steep descents, and modulation is spot-on. Once you try them, you’ll understand why everyone swears by XT.”
When the trail points down and gravity takes over, the Shimano XT BR-M8120 Disc Brake gives us the power and control to keep speed in check with confidence. Its 4-piston caliper delivers aggressive, consistent braking on long descents, while the refined Servo-Wave lever design ensures smooth, intuitive modulation even in the sketchiest terrain.
Engineered for riders who demand reliability and precision, the M8120’s ceramic pistons resist heat buildup, and the finned pads dissipate it fast for fade-free braking on sustained drops. The updated I-Spec EV lever clamp keeps the cockpit clean and stable, making it easy to pair with shifters and dropper remotes. Pre-bled and ready to mount, this system blends Shimano’s legendary dependability with the kind of fine-tuned performance that elevates every ride.

Great brakes
- Familiarity:
- I've put it through the wringer
I’ve switched from SRAM brakes to XT brakes on two bikes now and have zero regrets. These outperform in stopping power and modulation.

Better than expected
On my $6500 XC ride I had 2 piston Sram brakes. I thought they were good, however, the new 4 piston XT are much better - more control with noticeably better stopping power. Very impressed. And, and I am not an enduro or downhill rider, yet, these are still a much better option for XC and all around. Thanks CC.

They set the Standard
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
Had them for a month and the 4 piston brakes are great on the E-bike. Shimano's work great but not the easiest with cables/hoses running through the frame. I had to bleed a few times.

When I bought my Levo SL Comp, it came with Sram Guide R brakes and levers. I know they are lower end Sram brakes but I was completely dissatisfied with them. So since I've always used Shimano XT or XTRs I bit the bullit and got the XT 8120s. OH my, what a difference. Even though the Srams were 4 piston brakes there is no comparison to the Shimano 4 piston XT 8120s. I would rate these 5 stars and just as good as the XTRs plus a heck of a lot less expensive. I highly recommend them, even at full price.

Replacement Pads

What's up with Shimano these days? Because I love these brakes. But I would love them much more if I could find replacement pads for them. They are non-existent...

I love these brakes...XT works just fine, no need to buy XTR.

Is this lever mount compatible with my XT shifter pod circa 2017?
