Why We Like The Ultegra SM-BB72-41B PressFit Bottom Bracket
The bottom bracket is a component that usually does its job without making a fuss, and Shimano knows how indispensable it is to our drivetrain, which is why they ensure smooth bearings, advanced sealing, and high manufacturing tolerances. With the Ultegra SM-BB72-41B PressFit Bottom Bracket, we're able to press this component right into our frame, working with our Shimano HollowTech crankset and any frame equipped with a BB86 bottom bracket shell. Two steel cartridge bearings are featured with this bottom bracket, and they are pressed into composite cups which increase the outside diameter to 41mm to match the frame's bottom bracket shell. A 1.75mm thick outer-lip provides a positive stop for the cups when they're pressed into place.

3 Years later, and still going.
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
Bought it on 8/01/22 along with the complete groupset, 3rd time building a bike from the ground up, and none of the Shimano parts I used so far have failed. Although I read so many reviews of bad experiences with the press fit BB, I decided a year later (2023) to buy a press fit that was all aluminum and had excellent reviews, well!!! It's been in the closet for two years now. I bought an R8000 mechanical 11sp, but I use a 12sp crankset, which I read it was compatible, and the 12sp crankset is better looking than the 11sp........absolutely nothing wrong with this Shimano BB. 3 years and counting.

Garbage
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
In 2/2025 I thought I would replace my bottom bracket with the stock OEM bottom bracket. I've ridden 1000 miles since then. This BB is creaking and it sounds like it's been ridden 10,000 miles. I won't make the mistake of buying another one these since I need to replace this BB.
