Husband's favorite climbing shoe
- Familiarity:
- I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
- Size Bought:
- 42.5
I bought this for my husband to replace his trashed scarpa vapor laces. I'm writing the review because he never will. He has had so many models of climbing shoes, starting with black diamond as a brand new climber and switching to scarpa when his better half, cough, started climbing. He has tried the maestros, actually picking them up in Italy on a work trip, origin, instinct, Quantic, trying on the helix (too narrow), force V, and currently wearing the 2025 model vapor V. When he needs a new shoe, it is because of literal holes in his current ones. He loved the maestros, but it is no longer made. His second favorite and the only repeat buy, is the vapor laces. These shoes give him enough control in the gym (boulder or rope) and outside, without having to downsize so much for control that his feet hurt after leaving the gym. With his current vapor V, his feet constantly hurt, even after being broken in and the performance increase is negligible. The vapor laces have a smooth rubber transition from tongue to toe and comfortable form around the achilles. Im sure hed provide a more technical breakdown, but if I asked you'd get, "ya there good shoes." Overall, great shoe. With the laces, they let you get a more custom fit, even if scarpa makes the laces ridiculously long and glossy.

Vapor Lace design Flaw
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
I purchased Scarpa Vapor climbing shoes for the first time recently. I was initially very impressed with the shoes. They were comfortable out of the box and performed exceptionally. However, I only used them a handful of times and they already have a hole in the toe through the leather. Generally, I have been able to get several months of use from my climbing shoes and am able to resole them a few times before the wear is too damaged. It seems that the Vapor has a design flaw in that the toe rand comes to a narrow point with a small gap in the rubber where the leather is exposed. I contacted Scarpa warranty directly but they did not stand behind their product. Very disappointing.
