Why We Like The Scarpa Crux Shoe
The best routes and crags are unfortunately never close, to reach them we opt for the Scarpa Crux Shoe. These streamlined approach shoes rely on a full-coverage, toe rand, super-grippy Vibram Vertical Approach outsole, and a resilient water-repellent suede upper to keep our feet happy while we navigate trails, loose rock, and granite slabs.
Although the brand's size chart has recommendations for how to choose your size, customer feedback suggests this shoe runs small, we would suggest sizing up if you are unused to a tight performance fit.

Nice shoes.
- Size Bought:
- 40 (8.5) womens
Comfortable right out of the box and sticky. These are great hiking shoes and great for scrambling. I have been wearing them for backpacking and hiking. They work good on the trail and cross-country. The only issue is how easily rocks, dirt, sand, seeds, and other small objects get into these shoes because they don't have gussetted tongues. I wear trail gaiters with them due to the minimalist tongues.

So happy i got these when i did. Last summer this shoe took me into the Cascades comfortably. I put a solid handful of miles on them. Like I said no discomfort at all.

easy to roll ankles
- Familiarity:
- I've put it through the wringer
They're fine approach shoes except for their fatal flaw, which is the reason I'm selling mine and switching to something else - they're notably easy to roll an ankle in! I've had about 3 friends roll their ankles in these or other Scarpa approach shoes, and I just did as well, pretty dang badly. Basically, the sole is narrower than the foot part, and they're so stiff that once you start to roll, it's game over. Bummed because they fit my wide feet better than most other options for approach shoes. Beware!
