What Our Gearhead® Experts Are Saying:
"This shoe totally changed how I approach big days in the mountains. It’s the best blend of scrambling grip and trail comfort I’ve found—light enough for fast travel but burly enough to trust on exposed ridges."
When the trail disappears into steep slabs and scree fields, the Salomon S/LAB Alpinway Hiking Shoe keeps us charging forward. Designed with alpine precision and trail-ready comfort, this hybrid hiking shoe is built to handle everything from summit scrambles to off-trail traverses with confidence.
The dual-density midsole keeps each step cushioned yet stable, while the Alpine Contagrip® outsole bites into rock and mixed terrain with unwavering traction. From the protective mudguard to the welded upper and climbing zone outsole, every detail is dialed in for high-mountain movement. Whether we’re linking up ridgelines or scrambling to a remote lookout, the Alpinway lets us move light, fast, and fearless.

Not true to size
Quite narrow and also not true to size. 1/2 size up would be sufficient.

Welcome back to the fronteir of footwear!
I felt compelled to write this review after seeing the 1-star review for church use... If you are an athlete, mountaineer, climber, trail-runner, and you are going to use this shoe for what it's for, you will be greatly rewarded. My girlfriend bought us both a pair of these before heading to Colorado in October as an anniversary gift, and if I am being honest, I wasn't sure how they would perform. These are built for so many purposes; they are essentially an approach runner that does everything right. We were able to do 4 14'ers in a week, plus the incline, without ever feeling break-in once—absolute comfort. This is what we all needed after the Speedcross 6 (no offense), but this is a shoe built for the terrain you are going to put it through. The cuff is tight and tough to get on (similar to a tight sock or climbing shoe) because it ought to be—it's securing you in your shoe. The Quicklace system is boasting tougher supports as well, plus two pull tabs to aid you in properly securing the boot, so you are able to choose how locked in you want to be. The reinforced outer layer and the rubber in front of the toebox really offer a fair amount of protection and stiffness as your holds grow smaller while still being fairly light and nimble. I was hesitant about the tread, bubble and lug configuration, but it seems to walk the line really well. Whether you are on approach, scrambling, or sending 3rd and 4th class rock, at some moment you have to put your faith in your footwear, and it seems that the engineers at Salomon and S/LAB took it seriously. These babies stick, and the rigidity throughout the shoe allows you to be able to be collected and confident—probably better than some of my dedicated approach or mountaineering boots. It's what we've been looking for. It's a step in the right direction for the person looking for a shoe they can take out for a wide variety of outdoor activity and be able to do that activity confidently and comfortably. There are a few areas of improvement or consideration. This is a lightweight, nimble shoe with amazing grip going up, but going down, one could really benefit from a reinforced heel brake or even more aggressive lugs made of more durable rubber. It increases the wear on the shoe and can take away some of that confidence when you can't dig your heels into anything when you need to. That's just my two cents, and I mean, it's nothing a few hobnails can't fix but food for thought I think this shoe is the future for so many of us who love the outdoors and fitness. I'm happy to be wearing this brand again. This is the ability to come back and break trail in a big way. Thanks! Johnny

Absolutely amazing
This shoes got me survived through 45degree slope, was able to fit my swollen feet after 5days of hiking. Water resistant and anti slippery. The only downside is it kind of lose its grip after half month intense hiking trip, so I am coming back to get another one.

Does what it says!
Used this shoe for a recent hiking trip to Aosta and the Italian alps. Put it through multiple days of backpacking with 1500m+ climbs everyday up a variety of terrain from rock and scree to dirt paths. Was stable and comfortable and provided excellent grip especially when climbing or going down steep rocky paths. Limited toe bang that is to be expected when descending extremely steep slopes. Comfortable enough to wear on the plane ride back as well.

S/LAB ALPINEWAY Walking Shoe
I didn't realise from the photos that you can't actually open the shoe. I break out into a sweat putting them on. Once on they are very comfortable. I can't understand why Salomon would do this. I have kept them and hope they get easier to put on. I have also bought the socks that go with them. The socks are very tight fitting but comfortable but I fear that ordinary socks would get pulled too high up on your feet while trying to stuff your feet into the shoes. I can't understand why Salomon would do this. I have got on very well with previous Salomons so will persevere with them. Also, I wanted a light coloured walking shoe for the summer so went with the white ones but a cream colour would be more practical.

Stiff
They sit a bit loose with a very stiff front. It did not work for me, but it will work for some.
