Genesis delivers precision, comfort, and rugged traction for tackling any trail with confidence

What Our Gearhead® Experts Are Saying:

"The Genesis is my go-to trail shoe when I need a balance of agility, support, and durability. The Matryx upper is lightweight yet incredibly tough, giving me confidence on technical terrain, while the energyFOAM midsole delivers the perfect blend of cushioning and responsiveness. The All Terrain Contagrip outsole grips everything from loose gravel to wet rock, and the Quicklace system keeps the fit secure without fuss. Whether I’m running mixed trails or rocky routes, this shoe handles it all."

No matter the trail ahead, the Genesis is built to keep us moving with confidence and control. Designed for versatility, this trail running shoe combines dynamic energy return, precision fit, and all-terrain durability to take on everything from rugged mountain paths to hard-packed dirt. The energyFOAM midsole provides lightweight cushioning and responsiveness, helping us maintain speed and comfort through changing terrain.

Durability meets innovation with the Matryx upper, a high-performance textile reinforced with Kevlar for abrasion resistance, breathability, and a locked-in fit. The EndoFit internal sleeve wraps the foot for a precise, glove-like feel, while the Quicklace system ensures a fast, secure fit every time. Underfoot, the All Terrain Contagrip outsole grips confidently to wet, dry, hard, or loose surfaces, making sure we stay stable and supported no matter where our runs take us.

Here's what customers have to say

The trail running shoe is generally well-received, with praise for its comfortable fit, excellent grip and traction, and responsive cushioning that provides a smooth ride. The shoe is described as lightweight, breathable, and stable on technical trails, performing well in various conditions. However, some users found the toe box too narrow, and a few experienced durability issues with the midsole foam after higher mileage. Overall, the shoe seems to be a versatile and capable option that many customers are satisfied with.

Good shoe 90% of the time

I primarily use trail runners for peak bagging in Colorado, given that use case i'd give the following comments. The shoe works great for on trail, off trail with loose kitty litter, sloped grass, etc. Nice and grippy and comfortable. That said, the shoe is absolutely terrible for rock climbing/scrambling. I would say it is borderline dangerous to do any scrambling with this shoe, if the rock is wet its like the shoe tread has a layer of oil on it. I would say in general if you regularly encounter wet rock on your trail runs/hikes or if you are looking for a shoe to scramble in, this one is not it.

Best value mountain ultra shoe

When it comes to mountain ultras, I don't think there's a better value. Great upper, good fit, and plenty of grip. No issues whatsoever and holding up well after 300+ miles so far.

Great Option for arch support

I usually go for the classic XA PRO 3D, but this gave me enough support to get me thru short runs and everyday use.

Best yet! Fit, comfort, materials are spot on.

Goldieocks of shoes. Fit, comfort, materials are spot on. Ample toe box, but not too big. Mid-sextion and heelcup wrap comfortably. Midsole, tongue and collar cushion are soft, but not too plush. Materials seem to be tough, like they will last the long run. I've been trail running for 40+ years. Once in a while a shoe comes along that suits my needs; this is one of them. I use these for trail runs, and road runs; long, short and intervals.

Overall Shoe Performance

Have owned many Salomon Supercross shoes, loved’em. First pair of Genesis, bought in April worn them around 10 times, super impressed with performance and fit. Having said that sole is coming unglued from shoe, have had to reattached a couple of times, other than that excellent.

My go-to trail runner.

Love the Genesis! The soft heel counter is great for people with Haglunds deformity. Great support, excellent traction, and love the Matrix uppers.

From shoe box to ultra

I bought the Salomon Genesis hoping, based on the description that, these trail shoes could be an every day and condition shoe. Definitely not disappointed! These shoes just flat out perform. Plenty of room in the toe box, amazing grip on muddy surfaces and lots of cushion over sharp objects and tree roots. The Salomon quick lace system performs well no matter what the conditions and the upper of this shoe is very breathable and lite and at the same time, provides great fit and control even on very steep traverses across hill sides. I would definitely recommend this shoe. If you want some waterproofness, pick the gortex version.

Nice mix of stability and cushion, short treadle

Really like these. They have just enough cushion but still feel responsive. Speed laces are great. My only complaint is the treads on outside rear heels wore out after 150 miles. I'm a heel striker.
