Run Short - Heavy Upper - Squishy Heal

Been running and hiking in Solomon's for 25 years. These shoes looked great online but are disappointing. I bought them as a heavy trail runner that I could use for backpacking, which is how I used the Sense Ride GTX's (discontinued?). The Genesis either run a half size short or the toe box is too narrow at the inside of the shoe...big toes rubbed against the side/front of the shoe on both feet. Beyond that, the uppers are thick and heavy, which is normal for Gortex, but overly so in this shoe. The upper seems bullet proof to trail wear, but they crease awkwardly which would be an issue for long hikes/runs. And most importantly, they lack stability. This shoe has a high heel stack which I don't mind, but the heel is so soft as to be unstable (ankle rolls). If the Genesis is Salomon's replacement to the Sense Ride 5's (burly trail runner / light hiker hybrid), it has a long way to go. These went back in the box 60 seconds after they came out.

some say you cant wear gortex for running

They are wrong. I love these and wished i never listened to the running store salesman and bought a pair of lone peak6 altras... they are a zero compared to Genesis goretex. Like my backcountry hiking boots which are also and forever salomons, the Genesis goretex are my new trail runners. Especially excellent for running in slushy snow! The Genesis gortex for trail running are what you typically expect with all of salomon foot wear: superb comfort, stability/durability. Everyone I talk to on the trails love their Salomons. Their really is no reseaon to bother wasting money trying other products.

True to Size, but Gore-Tex Didn't Breathe

The sizing was spot on with my previous Salomon shoes. Bought these to replace my X-Ultra 3 GTXs which are worn out. Previously also had a par X-Ultra 2 GTX. However, this time, the gore-tex just doesn't breathe as well as previous shoes. Switching to the non-gore-tex version. Also, the color options for the non-gore-tex version are much better.

Runs a Little Short

I feel the GTX version runs slightly shorter than the normal Genesis. The GTX is definitely stiffer which could be the difference. I love the color way.

Very comfortable shoes

Great snug fit typical of Salomon shoes. The undersole felt surprisingly thick and padded compared to my previous pair. Initially I wasn’t sure because I can’t “feel” the terrain as much, but I got used to them very quickly and love them! I could walk forever in them. Also I love the colour, not all black but still quite toned down, not bright nor garish, so I can wear these as everyday shoes in town on rainy days.

First pair

My first pair of Salomon shoes and I love the fit. Great for scrambling around on trails and dunes in my area. I love the way they hold firmly to my feet when edging.

Good old Salomon

My 6th or 7th pair of running shoes from Salomon -- reliable as ever -- comfortable, robust, gor-tex waterproof, excellent lace system -- what's not to like?

Fit is not so good

I have worn these shoes twice now. The toe box is too small. The rest of the shoe fits fine, but the toe is entirely too small. Compression pain on small toes and big toes within a matter of an hour or two.
