Why We Like The Patagonia Black Hole 100L Wheeled Duffel Bag
When our long travels require us to bring everything but the kitchen sink, we count on the Patagonia Black Hole 100L Wheeled Duffel Bag to handle the load. This big, burly bag has ample space to carry everything we need for multi-week stays in foreign locales, and its rugged construction ensures it can hold up against rough baggage handlers and worse weather. Ripstop fabric is highly abrasion-resistant, and the TPU-film laminate and DWR finish repel water, so the contents don't get soaked when we're making our way to our hotel in a downpour. We throw this bag around by its haul handles without worry since the bottom is padded with foam to protect contents. Plus, navigating around airports, train stations, and city streets is easy thanks to smooth-rolling oversized wheels and a convenient telescoping handle.

Cheap and flimsy construction
- Familiarity:
- I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
I bought this bag based on good past experience with Patagonia items. This bag, however, was a big disappointment. The construction is very cheap and the bag certainly not "rugged" as description states. After my first flight I noticed the wheels were starting to bow out as if the weight in the bag was causing the bottom axle to bend. The bag, despite its 100L capacity, was not even heavy enough (50 lbs) for me to have to pay extra for the flight. As my trip progressed I noticed the wheels bowing more and more. I took the bag to a Patagonia store in Japan and the staff there informed me that there wasn't even a bottom axle! The wheels are secured using screws into the flimsy frame. One of the screws they said wasn't even the correct type so they replaced that one. The problem is the wheels are still bowing out and look like they could come off at any time since they are just secured with bolts. My old REI bag and others I used had much sturdier construction and cost considerably less so I wouldn't recommend this bag.
