Fossil Rock II Glove boosts grip, comfort, and control for belays and rappels

What Our Gearhead® Experts Are Saying:

"These gloves are perfect for long belay sessions or rappels—they protect my hands without killing dexterity. The leather palm grips the rope beautifully, and the fingerless design keeps me precise when tying knots or managing gear. They’re durable and surprisingly breathable for all-day use."

We trust the Outdoor Research Fossil Rock II Glove when belay duty calls or a long series of rappels lies ahead. Designed for durability and control, these fingerless climbing gloves feature rugged leather and suede palms that stand up to rope wear while delivering solid grip and protection.

The breathable stretch fabric across the back of the hand keeps airflow high and bulk low, while the neoprene cuff and hook-and-loop closure provide a secure, comfortable fit. Whether guiding a partner up multi-pitch routes or descending after a long day of climbing, the Fossil Rock II Gloves offer the perfect balance of dexterity, protection, and comfort.

Here's what customers have to say

These gloves are generally well-designed and suitable for various outdoor activities, providing good protection and grip without compromising mobility. Great gloves, long lasting

These gloves fit nicely and are super comfortable. They pull on and off like a charm with the pull tabs by the fingers and wrist. They protect hands and fingers while using the rope but aren't stiff at all which is a plus. The fingerless version is great for keeping your dexterity while using various sized carabiners.

Gloves worked as intended. Useful on range. Got maybe 6 months out the pair.

White is a choice

Great gloves but white is an insane color choice for belay gloves. After one week they are a bit more grey than white. They can be very difficult to remove from sweaty hands and you end up turning the whole thing inside out, but this might be an artifact of them being fingerless? I liked the white more than the brown but consider them to be grey at best longterm

Hard to remove from hands.

I like the leather palms, they handle the handle bars just fine and still give me digital precision on my phone. They are just really tight in the fingers and are surprisingly hard to remove from my hands. I've tried stretching them out with some success. Given the quality materials, I expect they will last for quite some time . . . hopefully I can improve their removal-time over the long haul.

great quality, tedious to remove

Size Bought:
xs

love the color and style, these gloves saved my hands during a long trip. I measured my hands before buying and bought a size xs based on the numbers provided. they fit great on the actual hand but are a little snug around the fingers. would be easier to remove if there were loops on the index and pinky finger as well and/or the loops were positioned higher on the glove.

Great gloves

Great for rope work in both indoor and outdoor use. The suede shed a little when I first got them but no that their broken in it’s great. Can be a little tight on large fingers, had to size up but love these.

Love the design and quality

These gloves are great! One issue is why I gave them 4 stars. The sizing states that they run true to size, but for me, they ran small, so I went up one size. Great glove but cost me $6.95 return fee.

Not bad

Size Bought:
Large

Seem good quality, but sized a little small. I normally wear a L glove, should have bought XL. can barely get my hands in and out of the large. I suggest erring on the side of a larger glove than you think you need
