Great design with loads of useful features
I’m really pleased and impressed with my new Sojourn Porter 30L – the perfect size for a short break (or even a week if you pack light!). It’s really thoughtfully designed with so many useful features, in particular the tuckaway straps, and the sidewalls which provide protection and sturdiness and enable the bag to be folded away for storage.

A bit big for under the seat
Like all osprey bags this one is really cleverly designed and has a multitude of useful pockets, and importantly for me a waist strap when used in its ‘rucksack’ mode, so that if you’re humping your luggage during travel it feels solid and fits your back well. However, I don’t think it packs down as tidily as I would have hoped. The many straps and panels mean it’s a solid unit of a bag, and therefore doesn’t squish down very easily. I had hoped it would work for under seat baggage on an airline, but in reality its likely to become and overhead locker bag with the benefit of the rucksack straps with waist band. Perhaps the 30l capacity and measured dimensions would have given me a clue on this, but I’m not sure its much different in practice to my slightly larger holdalls. Maybe time will tell. I’m on the fence at the moment as to how useful this bag will be.

We have a few different
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We have a few different sizes of Osprey bags, but the reason why we like 30L the best is it’s EASY. Short trip 2-3 days we can use as luggage. It’s also the correct size for a short hike to hold waters and lunch without added weight!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Outstanding “weekender”. As good as its bigger brother (46L), but better suited for 2-3 day trips.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I used it on a trip to Fiji and it was stellar. It kept my gear safe and separated into the different compartments. I did bring an additional small tote / light backpack for water based activities.

Really wanted to embrace this pack, but …
Main compartment which folds open completely is a great feature as are the compression straps allowing this pack to fit under your airline seat. Chest and hip straps are a real bonus. However, this pack is heavy for long day hikes and and the absence of dual external pockets for easy access to water bottles is very poor design. The existing external angled sleeve does not cut it for water bottles.
