Rock solid, not in a good way.
This shoe was like walking on concrete. Even though the arch support was ok, the uppers are like cast iron and the footbed felt as hard as a rock. There's no flexibility at all. I'm sending them back. The color is the only.nice thing. Llbean needs to learn what "cushion" means.

Difficult to tighten laces
These shoes have great support, and the length is accurate. I wear a size 11, and the 11s fit properly! My problem with them is that the laces almost impossible to pull tight. I have narrow feet and need to cinch up the laces - impossible. I tried to remove the laces and put in my own, but the laces have a hard plastic coating on the tips, and it's impossible to get them through the eyelets. So....back these went to LL Bean.

The fit/sizing was good. The toebox seemed a little tight at first but being leather it loosened up quickly. The lacing was too frustrating. Nylon laces do NOT pull through leather slits without an awful lot of effort, so instep fit was hard to get. I wear custom orthotics, so the first thing I have to do is get rid of the insole orthotics provided and use a flat cushuioned insole. I liked the features and the look, but the ultimate fit was just not there.

Solid, secure performance
The 4 out of 5 rating is due to a break in period before they became fully comfortable. I wore these shoes all day, every day, during a weeklong trip to London. Gotta say that my feet were sore toward the end of several of the days. Then, they weren’t! I’m glad I persisted. I like the roomy toebox and the waterproof feature. As I am an outdoor walker well into the winter when weather permits, I am looking forward to relying on the rugged, grippy soles. Because of this, these shoes are heavier than regular walkers. However, they are in fact hiking shoes—so I have opted to trade off a lighter feel for a more secure experience when walking in slippery conditions. Overall, I would recommend these shoes.

Stiff. Shoestrings are terrible.

Pros: Great looking shoe. Arch support is good. Toe box sees to have plenty of room but could be wider for me, maybe great for some. For reference I usually get women's 8 D in Brooks Glycerin running shoes. Cons: STIFF. Stiff. Stiff. The shoelaces and lacing holes are terrible. Feel clunky. I ultimately decided to return.

The search is over!
I have been trying to find a comfortable, waterproof travel/walking shoe for 4 years. I finally found these! They have good arch support, plus the insoles are removable and they're roomy enough for orthotics. These are sturdy but not bulky. They're comfortable to walk in and wear all day. The color is pretty, too. Keeps them from looking manly or frumpy. Big plus- they did not aggravate my plantar fasciitis!
