I do long haul hikes every summer.. Some years I do thruhikes I normally use topo athletics but I stumbled upon these accidentally because some of the new Topos just weren't working and fitting for me like years pastđ€·ââïž. Anyway, Not only do these new Nikes have the wide toe box and vibrant mega grip sole, they are crazy light weight and super comfortable! Plus the airy mid and solid base materials make these IMHO the perfect long distance hiking sneakers! The only negative thing is the cost! I was able to get these on a pretty good sale but even then they were expensive (in my world at least).. I'm guessing the secret is out on these because they are hard to find and size availability is sporadic and random.. I looked and other sites had them listed anywhere from $170 to $399đ„” What is crazy is that (for example) a men's size 11 was in the standard range of pricing ($225).. If, however, you need an 11.5 they are $340 or more! That's just crazy! I'm guessing that's a supply and demand issue but hopefully it will change! These sneakers are awesome and I hope the price comes down and more come in so more people can experience them! In my (now almost 8 years) of thruhiking and working SAR, I've never worn a Nike trail shoe.. mainly because I like having a wide toe, vibram megagrip etc etc.. Well, now Nike has this awesome option.. The only issue right now is cost and availability.. The average compared sneaker runs $150-175.. These I got for $175 (with taxes etc) but that was on sale(30% off) .. regular retail is roughly $235.. and the sizes seem to all be priced different which definitely sucks..obviously for any thru hike or long haul mountain hike you want to size up.. for me that usually means getting size 11.5.. (normally I wear an 10.5 or 11 in Nikes) for these though, I sized up to a 12 because 11.5 wasn't offered at backcountry and on other sites (as stated) they are selling the 11.5 for $340.00 and upđ„”đȘ.. To me that's just crazy! It actually worked out well because getting the size 12 gave me the necessary "thumb gap" in the toe section.. My perfect fit for long haul hikes. My point is from my perspective these run a little small so you may want to size up another half size (if you're buying for a thru hike or any mountain long distance hiking)
