What Our Gearhead® Experts Are Saying:

"This pack handles multi-day missions with ease. The micro-adjust yoke made dialing in the fit super simple, and I love the quick 3-ZIP access—especially when I need to dig out layers or a snack without unpacking everything."

Big days in the backcountry call for a pack that can carry it all—and carry it comfortably. The Mystery Ranch Coulee 50L is made for ambitious mountain missions, built with a light yet rugged frame, cushioned lumbar support, and a micro-adjustable yoke that tailors the fit to your torso. We load it up for long weekends, backcountry loops, and gear-heavy basecamps, with confidence that the Coulee will shoulder the weight without compromise.

Durable, recycled 210D nylon and a double-layered bottom stand up to season after season of rough terrain, while smart features like 3-ZIP access, a dedicated sleeping bag compartment, and stretch exterior pockets keep our gear organized and ready. Great carry on size

Love this pack. Big but still carry on size. Very comfortable waistbelt. I am not a fan of many pockets; this seems to have about the perfect number. Enough exterior pockets and straps to strap on bigger items when needed.

Love my new pack, and it showed up fast. I was issued Mystery Ranch packs in the military favorite packs I’ve ever had

fit for a big guy

I already have the Coulee 25 and 40. I like the line because at 6'5" and 300 lbs. they are actually able to fit me with reasonable comfort. Belt could be better for the very large-- need padding lengthened so not just webbing across my big belly. I also like the three-zipper opening feature--best of side and best of top opening. Outside pockets are great, could use a little more internal organization and better features for security and photo and electronics. Solid construction as always.

Finest support system

Should work well for a light over nighter. Sleeping bag compartment is a little small. The support carry system is very comfortable even fully loaded. Need to get some trail miles with this for a more comprehensive review.

Incredible and Efficient Tool for Travel

I bought the Coulee 50 for a journey to remote areas along the Colombia—Panama border. It has everything you need. I traveled for ten days with this backpack and loved it more each day. It has spacious pockets and easy access to gear. It is small enough to take along on long hikes but holds far more than I expected. It is lightweight, and the frame is fantastic. It is balanced and comfortable. I sweated a bit while wearing the pack. It would be THE PERFECT pack if some type of ventilation were available. This is an excellent product that is very well-engineered.

Great pacl

My only complaint is the straps on the bottom of the pack. I used them to hold a camp chair but they would not stay tight.

Perfection minus strange design oversight:

Flaw: I have 25l, 60l, and 100l packs by different manufacturers as well. I expect the bottom cinch straps to function as attachment for a tent or bedroll beneath the pack. This is inexplicably impossible on the coulee 50 due to short straps. My 2-person backpacking tent minus poles is too fat to be attached this way. They could have just used a tiny bit more cheap 3/4" strap to allow this, or omitted the straps as they serve no function as-is. The straps are long enough to go around a skinny tent pole bag at most. Very weird oversight. Fixed this by adding 3/4" D-rings to the straps so I can attach a tent or bedroll with cordage.

Great Pack, Could be Better

The Coulee 50 is a great pack. Good size, rides well, lots of adjustment points for how it carries and how it packs. But a few cons : - The carry system is very comfortable but it gets really hot, especially on the mid-back and hips. - the bottom zipper pocket is pretty tight so it's a bit hard to get things in and out. - the two long pockets along the main zip taper as it's goes down so not really usable for water bottles, more for tent poles or other long, narrow items. That said, some great pros : - Again, carry system is very comfortable, sits well on the shoulders and the hip pockets are actually usable when carried. - the triple zip design is still a fantastic feature, can get full access to the whole pack or specific sections with ease. - compresses very well and holds pretty good amount of equipment/weight

Well built bag

The overall construction of the bag is second to none. The removable waist strap is a great feature and is easy to use. My favorite part of the coulee 50 is the number and size variety of pockets. Despite not having a chance to rigorously test the pack, I know mystery ranch provides a quality product that will withstand the toughest conditions.

SUPERDUPER

I have been using Mystery Ranch for over a decade when I got the first one issued to me in the Navy. I got this Coulee 50 bag to use for week long work trips and have only used it one time to the Middle East. It was super comfortable to wear through the airports and out in the field. I love the hip straps and pockets. The hip pockets weee Super convenient to hold my passports and all my snacks. Side and back pockets held everything from water bottles, headphone cases and sandals as well as wet and dirty cloths. My favorite feature is the Y zip for east access to the internal compartments. Even east when going through TSA checks for random searches.
