Rendezvous Sun Shield Shelter
Instead of hiding in your tent, set up MSR's Rendezvous Sun Shield Shelter in the rain and continue to enjoy the great outdoors. Fragile Fabric
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
This shade tarp is beautifully made, but the fabric does not hold up in the sun. The poles are sturdy and the corners are reinforced well. It is lightweight and sets up easily. If you need this for occasional use, or only as a rain tarp, buy it. However, the fabric degrades quickly in sunlight. Expect to have to replace it after one season.

Disappointed
- Familiarity:
- I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
This sun shelter did not live up to my expectations at all. I took it out for its first use this weekend in Big Bend National. The ground there is pretty rocky but nothing my tent stakes can't handle. Multiple stakes for this shelter snapped upon first use in rocky ground. One of guidelines also snapped. There were high winds, probably around 20-25 mph (this shelter says it's withstands 75mph) and it was struggling. I had to tighten the guidelines multiple times and every 15 or so minutes would need to be fixed. It is also incredibly low to the ground and hard to enjoy sitting under for shade. I'm very dissatisfied with this and wish I could return as I will no longer be able to use it.

Incredible
This saved our camping getaway several times. It can withstand really high winds and is completely rainproof. Get the extra 2 poles. Amazing

I’m very happy with this
I’m very happy with this sun shield. It’s really heavy duty and withstands high winds. It’s nice that you can set it up differently to suit your area you don’t need flat ground like most other tents.

Excellent tarp
Used it camping solo and it’s light enough to backpack with if you take the poles out. Groundhog stakes don’t work with this is sand and have just used it on the beach with proper stakes for sand and it was brilliant. Kept the gulls off and a welcome respite from the sun. Also good in wooded areas to stop tree sap, twigs, leaves etc falling into food. Built well and very stable.

One guy line missing
Directly on delivery I noticed that one guy line was missing and I needed the tarp for m birthday party outside. Up to now I was used to the quality of MSR, don't know how that could pass the quality check! Not so much amused, because replacement was not immediately possible.

Old School
My Moss Outfitter Wing, is the predecessor to the Rendezvous and has served me well for 25 years. MSR has upgraded the material and you can be confident in this product. I have used it with as many as 6 poles and have flown it off the side of my adventure van using suction cups to attach it to the roof!

Review of Rendezvous 200 Wing
I’ve only used my new 200 Wing a couple of times this fall and found that it met all my expectations in both wind and rain. It’s a bit of a handful to set up but I’ve used one many times before so we knew what to do. It is ideal for a large party where weight isn’t an issue. I expect the stakes that come with it may be a little light in a real blow so I plan to add another bigger/heavier set. In the past we have found double staking some of the windward guy lines usually does the trick.

Best new gear purchase
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
My husband and I love gear and have our fair share for rafting trips. We never had a rain Fly because our friend always brought his on trips. This year he couldn?t make it and we expected rain for our pre season Main trip. Days before we ordered the Rendezvous. It was an amazing shelter that pitched quickly and added tons of space for shelter over the kitchen or a sitting place in the shade. We used oar handles to pitch it higher and the convenient pockets at each point made it easy to do so. The system needed several of us to hold different poles or to get stakes in the ground. Would be a difficult job with one or two people. Would be great if it came with an extra stake. Years ago we bought a tent like sunshade but never took it anywhere because it was so heavy and hot and hard to set up. The Rendezvous packs small and will be with us on every trip.
