Why We Like The Mountain Hardwear Stretchdown Hooded Jacket

The Mountain Hardwear Stretchdown Hooded Jacket stands out as a technical midlayer, shining on its own on mild days at the crag and seamlessly layering beneath a shell on wet, rainy hikes. Featuring 700-fill goose down that efficiently traps heat while maintaining breathability, the jacket packs down small so we can have it close at hand on a moment's notice. The stretch fabric is incredibly durable, keeping us warm and comfortable whether we're belaying our climbing partner or scrambling over boulder fields on a summit push.

Color difference

I ordered the Outer Dark color expecting the "teal-ish" color that appeared on my screen but the coat that arrived is a true navy blue. Also, the pic show the MH logo in gray but it is black on the coat that arrived. I am between a med and a large so sized up to fit layers and it fits great except sleeves are bit long for my short frame. Haven't been able to test warmth yet due to ordering this in Spring due to great sale!

The perfect spring jacket

MHW quality is still the best around. Lightweight and durable jacket. Perfect for spring. It's had some water resistance which makes it great for the random spring sprinkle

The Perfect Weight for Hiking

This jacket is the perfect weight. I’ve worn it on hikes when it was 20 degrees and when it was 50 degrees. I love the light weight, so that even adding a backpack and binoculars, I am nimble. But I love just wearing it around town too. I’ve gotten lots of compliments.

So durable!

I got this for climbing in the fall/winter and the durability exceeds my expectations. I boulder in it and haven't ripped it once. It can brush against pokey trees and branches, and still not a rip in sight. Impressed. It's also super stretchy so even with a couple of layers underneath, I still do'nt feel restricted.

Perfect jacket

This jacket is the best, I used it in Colorado on a snow snowshoe adventure in Rocky Mountain Park in February. Kept me dry and warm against negative temps. Light weight and warm, better then bulky puffy jacket. The sizing is accurate.

Stains easily, but fixable

I bought this jacket in the olive color. I too find that it stains incredibly easy and even on places that nothing spills on which I don't understand. Oil from my neck and face stains the collar as well. I have found however, that Dawn dish soap works pretty well. I just squirt a little to cover the spots, let it sit for bit and then put it in the wash on cool or cold with a little tide. (by the way, this works on any clothing that you spill grease or oil on). Comes clean every time. It is a pain in the butt to keep doing this, however I love the fit of the jacket (I am apple shape and I appreciate it not being so form fitting) and it's very light and still warm. Perfect for New England winter.

My favorite down jacket

This is a fantastic active down jacket whether you're out climbing or just running errands around town. It's got all the features you want- fleece lined pockets, stretchy fabric, elastic cuffed wrists, double zippers; plus it's incredibly cozy. I love wearing it on cold mornings when I'm out guiding in the desert. I am in-between medium and large in MHW clothes so I got a large so it would be nice and roomy for layers, though I don't often need very many because it's so warm! Highly recommend this jacket!
