Not enough sizes
Great pack, well designed, too small for longer torsos. I bought a M/L and it was too short so I gave it to my wife. She loves it! I just went on-line to buy an XL but this size does not exist. Too bad for me. I don’t even have that long of a torso.

Mountain Hardwear Scrambler 35
I have had a Scrambler 30 for at least 5 or 6 years. The only thing I didn't like about it was the inability to transfer any weight to the hip belt. The new Scrambler 35 seems to have addressed that. I used it for three weeks on an Everest 3-passes trek and put it through its paces. I didn't need to carry an axe or ropes but I appreciate the versatility and the ability to move and adjust all lashings. This is a comfortable and versatile bag. It's a completely different, lighter, fabric than my old Scrambler 30 but withstood the fairly heavy use with no signs of wear and tear whatsoever, so the fabric would seem to be pretty rugged. Comfort was fine. I'm 6' tall and the tall model worked well. The lightweight frame and back-pad doesn't have ventilation ribs like the 30 did but I didn't really notice much difference. They both get a bit sweaty, but it's bearable. The straps are an improvement, with better padding and adjustability. One thing I didn't like so much was the waist belt. It IS padded and DOES provide some weight support. However, it seems to have been designed for someone with a 20" waist. The side "wings" are not long enough and not really stiff enough. Also the belt could do with being a stiffer, perhaps 2" fabric. I realize this is a weight-saving compromise, and the bag is at least now designed so I could swap out the belt, but I feel it was a half-hearted attempt. Number one, BIG complaint is that the top compartment is not waterproof. What's the point in having waterproof fabric, then sewing in a non-waterproof zip and not sealing the seams. After a couple of hours in light drizzle, everything in the top compartment was damp. Would it REALLY have added much cost to have used a waterproof zip? I don't know if the main compartment is properly sealed. Nothing in there got wet on this trip but, like I said, I only experienced a couple of hours of light drizzle. ...then I bought a cover for it. One of the MAIN selling points for me was that this bag was advertised as waterproof, so shouldn't NEED a cover. On a related topic, I could not tell if the drinking bladder pouch was properly isolated from the main compartment. It should be - in case of a leak or spill. It did not appear to be so, although I did not test it to be sure. If it weren't for the waterproofing, I'd give this bag five stars, even though I think there's room for improvement with the waist belt.

New favorite pack
My new favorite pack. At first I thought the bright orange was a bit much, but I've grown to love it. Esp how it shows in photos. The pack itself is just the right size for a long day in the mountains - food, water, extra layers, rope...it all fits. Carries comfortably. The fabric and contruction is bomber.

Scrambler 35
This pack really is one of the best multi purpose outdoor adventure packs on the market. I’ve had several versions of the scrambler and this one is the best yet. At 35L it’s a good size for a multitude of activities. It can be stripped down to bare nuts or fully equipped, whatever your taste. Quality is superb. Material is crunchy (due to weather resistance) but feels very durable and light. Features are great without being too much. A much needed improvement was the addition of stabilizers on the shoulder straps, as well as a removable hip belt. I would like to have seen a second set of compression/utility straps toward the bottom of the pack as well. The ones toward the top of the pack are removable and can be relocated pretty much anywhere on the pack. A second set would have allowed for more gear attachment versatility (snowboard/snowshoe/etc). You can still get it done with the provided straps, but two more would have been ideal especially considering they are removable if not wanted. The representation of color was the big disappointment for me. MH typically does a great job at subduing their logos on certain items. On this product webpage, the black version looks very black, pretty much blacked out. The logo looks to be a dark shade of grey and does not contrast much against the black. Also the harness looks to have a very subdued checked or box pattern on the material. I needed a blacked out all purpose climbing/hiking backpack to comply with work regulations, and was excited to see the pictures of the black scrambler on the product web page. Upon arrival however, there was a pretty drastic difference. The front MH logo is basically white and stands out a lot. The checked pattern on the harness material is also basically white and creates a major contrast against the black, much more than meets the eye on the product page photos. Kind of disappointing when the product photos look basically blacked out. I checked the appearance of the pack on my phone, computer, and a second computer and all looked the same.

Exceptional backpack!
Wow! Dripping with quality;) This backpack is so so good. Lots of little touches that makes this one great. I like that the hipbelt hides away, also the top of the backpack being easily removable is so nice. Everything you could want in a 35L backpack:)

MH Scrambler 35L Review
Great pack, well thought out for one day mountain ascents. Loaded up with climbing gear and weight was around 28lbs. With climbing partner can distribute the gear/weight. Think 20lbs at most would be ideal for alpine climbing with this pack. This is also my go to pack for day hiking. Great pack at this price.
