Why We Like The Scrambler 25L Backpack
The Scrambler 25L Backpack is just the bag we need for cragging. Mountain Hardwear constructed this bag from Dimension-Polyant material, which has a four-layer construction to help it seal out water and resist the abrasive nature of the approach. The padded base helps the pack stand vertically so you can load gear easily as well as protects contents once they're loaded. Waist and sternum straps stabilize the pack while dual-density padding in the shoulder straps keep your comfortable. A variety of attachment points include daisy chains, an internal gear loop, and the Forward-Access system which ensures you can reach clipped gear without taking off your pack.

Here's what customers have to say
The reviews for this backpack are mixed. Positive aspects include durable material, comfortable fit, and useful features like gear loops and pockets. However, there are concerns about the stability and comfort when heavily loaded, as well as issues with the removable compartment and small design flaws. Overall, it may be a suitable daypack or climbing pack, but potential buyers should carefully consider the fit and features to ensure it meets their needs.

Almost perfect, but a still a great bag for the size.
Overall this is a great bag. The adjustable straps make for easy quick changes. The bottle holders on the outside are tall enough to be more secure than most, but I am concerned about the elastic over time. The brain is fully detachable and the main body has a very intuitive closure, allowing for quick pull open and pull closed. The top closure strap allows for easy rope carry or over pack on top of the main compartment. I would like to see one or 2 internal pockets past the bladder compartment to allow for smaller items to be sequestered and accessable. The top zipper of the brain consistently gets stuck on the fabric so needs to be carefully opened.

hard back
The backpack is the size i wanted. it holds just as i hoped. the stiff back is not what i wanted. if there was a way to remove that it would be great.

Great small pack
Great bag for day hiking/5ish mile approaches to climbs. Light and easy to use, the opening and closing of the bag is smooth and really quite nice. Opens big enough to easily access everything I need. Favorite parts include the ability to tuck away straps, and the external gear racks, as it makes climbing with the bag on no big deal.

Backpack is 🔥
Well thought out nice pack. Only downfall is the ice axe loops come loose as you hike. Velcro straps here would be better.

Great pack but could use more pockets
I have really enjoyed the scrambler. It’s super durable and lightweight and I can pack a ton of stuff into it. I just wish that it had more than the one main compartment in the main pack - I use the two zippered pouches for a lot of smaller items which is great, but the main section could use a few.

Does not hold as much as I expected
I previously bought the Camp 4 21 Backpack & was happy with that for the price & its function. Based on the description, (and the almost 2x price) I was expecting the Scrambler 25 to be an upgrade. It's not. 1) It seems to hold LESS items than the Camp 4. 2) The lack on normal zipper makes the bag seem unfastened to me.

I bought this one to replace one I’ve had for years that was starting to delaminate. It has done many miles and has treated me well. It’s comfortable and fits a good amount of gear in it. I like the new design of the water bottle holders on the sides.
Love its waterproof ability. I like the new inside pocket, and the durability.

Say bye to your specialized daypacks.
I think they nailed it with a multipurpose daypack. Don’t get me wrong, I love specialized gear, but if one piece can do many things so well, why would you buy specialized things? I love that it has creature comforts like water bottle pockets, and a removable brain, which make it great for hiking; but then at the same time it is simple enough to drag up multi pitches. I just wouldn’t use this for touring, since there is no avy gear compartment. It’s simple with it’s large main compartment, and if you use the brain, the two small pockets add great organization. I am someone who wants a pack that can only fit what I need and no more. I find if I have space I’ll use it, so the removable brain when I don’t need it is fantastic. The cinch clasp is not good though like what other reviews said, so buy a field repair buckle from sea to summit or something. As soon as I got it, I tested my backpacking gear with a CCF pad, and it was able to fit it with the pad cinched between the brain. Haven’t tried an overnighter yet, but I would not do more than a single night. That’s one thing I wish the pack had, removable padded hip straps for when you have heavier loads. Just a warning, I use the ice axe carry for my trekking poles. One day I ran down, and at the bottom I found out the poles popped out. Walking though, never had a problem with them.

Uncomfortable frame
Great features, but the bottom of the frame is extremely uncomfortable and rigid at the bottom. Bruises and friction spots on my lower back after a short sport cragging day. It packs everything I need for a mountaineering day, but is hardly wearable. I might try to add padding on the bottom of the frame. The side pockets do not stretch much either!
