Why We Like The Firefall/2 Bib Pant

When we're putting in the skinner at dawn, we like to have a versatile bib that can both keep us warm and also offer ventilation when the sun crests over the mountains. That's a job for Mountain Hardwear's Firefall/2 Bib Pant. It's a technical bib for hunting powder lines that both traps heat and offers full-length side zips for ventilation when we're trudging up the mountain and still have a thousand feet of elevation to go.

Fit not what it used to be. They are way smaller than before. Had to return them. The newer pant fits better. I also like the powder maven bib but it is not available in black which I needed.

Totally changed fit. Too narrow and small. Had to return

Looove

These are just fantastic! Unbeatable for the price & quality. Read a lot of reviews prior to buying and I see what many folks said in regards to the lack of drop tail capability HOWEVER they drop just fine for me. Because the fabric has good stretch to it, I'm able to pull them down and slide the backside across the bum and easily have them pulled down and over enough for a quick squat. As I run very cold on the mtn, this was a huge factor in if I was going to keep them or try to consign locally (as they're a final sale item here), and with that said I'm frothing to wear them this winter and couldn't be more stoked on the fit, color, and easy of access. That said, if you have a good seamstress you could easily have the side zipper altered to extend down a couple inches (shown in picture) that would really make the side squat guaranteed for all. Reference, in 5'2" 100lbs, bought size xs reg length. I'm also digging the lack of buckle or snaps on the shoulder straps as I see now they're really unnecessary and will not have to worry about my hair getting stuck in strap buckles. 10/10 (caveat, not sure how warm they will end up being but I usually only wear 15k max gear with warm baselayers)

Best Bib

Happy to have found this product as my first bib. Just my size that fits me well and I’m able to move freely. Comfortable, kept me warm and dry for snowboarding in Utah. Purchased on sale, great value and quality.

Love the fit and feel of these bibs. Great for everyday use, supremely waterproof, comfortable and steezy.

Firefall/2 lost all of the best features of the original

I absolutely loved my original fireball bibs, and decided it was time for a new pair... I couldn't be more disappointed. All of my favorite features don't exist in these bibs. Where did the drop seat go? I loved having the ability to NOT have to get entirely undressed to go pee, not worrying about if my shoulder straps are being dragged across the bathroom floor. Where did the beautifully stretchy waistband go? It was so comfy, easy to put my arm in to adjust clothing layers, bend, sit... I could squat to help my kids get their boots buckled, twist and bend with ease, to strap in and out without being sliced through my middle. Where did the full leg zippers go? Oh to be able to get a wicked vent going as needed or just pop some space into the knee for a full squat to wrestle a child into their boots, pants, coat, mittens, helmet... I didn't know how lucky I was. But alas, I am a woman, so I should have expected that I couldn't return to a product I loved and have it be the same as I had left it, I should have known better.
