Why We Like The Mountain Equipment Aerotherm Jacket
Our go-to lightweight layer for active pursuits, Mountain Equipment's Aerotherm Jacket helps our body maintain a comfortable microclimate when we're burning calories in chilly conditions. The softshell fabric provides windproof protection and breathability while being backed by a microfleece lining, so we can stay warm without overheating as we're hiking, running, or climbing in the crisp mountain air. It also stashes away easily in our pack, so we can wear it or shed it as needed as the weather changes or our activity level changes.

Good light jacket
- Familiarity:
- I've put it through the wringer
- Size Bought:
- Backcountry
Took it on 6 days Laugavegur Trek in Iceland as intermediate layer. It’s pretty good in light to medium wind and can hold its own to very light drizzle. One downside - it’s somewhat hard to put it over the fleece as it’s insides are very soft sticking to it.

Almost PERFECT
- Size Bought:
- Large
Almost PERFECT - The lore surrounding this piece is pretty much spot on. I got one in a Salomon store in Reykjavik a few years ago for my son. He was in love with it and never without it. I decided to buy one for myself. Problem for me was I'm not 20 years old and 5% body fat. I generally always wear a size large even though I'm only 5'9". I like thing loose so I can easily layer. I also climb and lift and my lats and back are not petit. I do not have a trip-athlete body. The large was perfect is all dims but the back/chest. I could barely zip it. I'd need a XL or a XXL and by the time we went there the sleeves would be insanely long. I have other Mountain Equipment soft-shell tops but none were cut like this. Too bad... as i absolutely love what the piece does and is other than the fit. Note: Mountain Equipment is European and so like Outdoor Research they are known to have this sizing discrepancy when compared to US company's products. Oh, and they use zippers that the slider is on the opposite side too.

Love this jacket!
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
- Size Bought:
- Large
Just took this jacket on a 5 day fall backpacking / climbing trip in Kings Canyon. I ended up wearing it almost the entire trip. We had pretty cold weather and lots of wind and the jacket performed extremely well. I have the regular aerofoil jacket which I prefer for warm weather outings. But this is perfect for colder high-output adventures. I also love how well the Mountain Equipment brand fits me. I'm 6'2" 190lbs with long arms and all of their gear fits me spot on in a Large. Can't recommend this jacket and this brand enough!

I don't know how...but it doesn't matter what I'm doing this is always the right jacket for the day. I don't overheat when using it touring and it feels cozy when is breezy on a multipitch. It is surprisingly weatherproof for how light and small it is. Drom now on it lives in my pack and the vest version is gonna be my go-to running layer this fall
