Why We Like The Mammut Taiss Pro HS Hooded Jacket
When our only goal is the summit, we rely on the Mammut Taiss Pro HS Hooded Jacket to get us there. The Mammut Dry DRYtechnology Pro 3L laminate provides complete waterproof and breathable coverage for when the weather blows in, while the nylon face fabric fights saturation and moves with us while we reach for a hand hold or scramble across rocky ridges. When the route proves harder work than we imagined, we simply open up the underarm vents to prevent overheating, and reach for a quick snack in one of the many pockets.

Great, durable shell
This shell is a durable, do it all product. It has great pocket placement for access when wearing a backpack. The usability ranges I found are for skiing, hiking, and climbing. Other ski shells have hand gaiters that limit use for anything else while this one does not, a plus for what I am looking for. The fabric is 70D, the equivalent of most Gore-Tex Pro shells. This is a proprietary Mammut shell that uses an eco friendly DWR coating, better for the earth but it does not stay as waterproof as the older PFC shells. It means a bit more maintenance to reapply, but it’s a worthwhile sacrifice.

Taiss Pro HS Hooded Jacket - Men's
- Familiarity:
- I returned this product before using it
- Size Bought:
- small and medium
This is a very nice, well constructed and full featured shell jacket. Unfortunately, it is cut only for tall, lanky, climber. I am 5'7" and 145 pounds and wear a small in other major brands. The small was too small for my shoulders and very long in both the length and the arms. The length was below my crotch, making it difficult to sit or even move my legs freely. The arm length looked freakish. The medium fit in the shoulders but the length issues were much worse. If you aren't 6' and a bean pole, you might want to look elsewhere. Too bad since the construction and materials are top notch.

Fanstastic well made jacket
I was deciding between the Taiss and the Taiss pro jacket, however, after looking at the amount of zipper I went with the Taiss Pro. I'm amazed at the quality of the jacket. I've never owned a mammut jacket before, however, I heard many great things about the jacket. The first thing I noticed was the quality. If I don't get at least 10-15 years of skiing out of this jacket I will be amazed, while it is a bit heavier than the regular Taiss by 300 grams, I think the quality of this jacket is worth the slightly added weight. The amount of zippers on the jacket is phenomenal. In addition to this the zippers are situated well throughout the jacket, and are also good quality and easy to zip and unzip. There is also several pockets on the inside, so if you like having lots of storage I would go with this one. In regards to the fit, I got a large because I wasn't sure if the XL would be to long on my arms. The large fits very well around the wasit and arms. The only thing I could say about the size and jacket as a whole is that if you have a muscular build it might be tighter around the chest and as a result layering might be tough. Despite that the jacket has fared very well. The waterproofing is as legit as it says with a 2800mm water column. I haven't gotten the jacket soaked yet but my initial wearing of the jacket leads me to believe that the jacket is extremely breathable and able to dry quickly. I can't say enough great things about this jacket. I will be going with Mammut again when I wear this one out in 10 years.

Phenomenal Quality and Fit
I am 5'11" and 175lbs, I have a very long torso and lengthy arms. This jacket fits perfect in a Medium. Most jackets have good arm length but feel too short. I like the backs of jackets longer as well as the sleeves and this fit the bill. The waterproofness has been top notch and great for a shell. You can use this as a resort shell, everyday shell, or a ski touring shell. It feels solid and the 70D outer is strong but not loud and crinkly. Definitely recommend to anyone who needs an all purpose jacket.

Solid shell
High quality and well built. Have used this in wet snow and the waterproofing was great. Also used it on a windy cold day in the Colorado alpine, and it had good wind blocking, the pit zips are easy to use.. I'm happy with it so far, I got it for skiing, ice climbing and hiking and it will work good. Weight didn't seem too bad and it's got a nice heavy weight feel. I like the material, the outer is just a little soft and has nice feel. The hood is large, and im sure would fit a helmet.. A couple cons: arms are just slightly long, to fully cover gloves I think but are long for normal use. The zippers seem good but are a little smaller sized to use with gloves. For fit, I'm 5'9 about 170 and got the large. It's not an athletic fit and is slightly boxy, but I found it comfortable in the chest and waist and can still have a layer under it. I use a lighter thermal type jacket under it comfortably. A mid weight down could be worn but it's a little snug.
