Why We Like The Mammut Taiss HS Hooded Jacket

Unruffled by cruel conditions, the Mammut Taiss HS Hooded Jacket is our armor of choice when heading into the moody and fickle weather of the alpine. The ultralight stretch construction bends and twists with us, while the two-way front zip and high-set pockets keep out of the way of our harness. Cutting winds and driving spindrift glance off the weatherproof material, keeping our microclimate unmarred underneath, and the adjustable hood, cuffs, and hem stop snow and gusts from breaching our defense.

Lightweight and Waterproof- Large fit

Great jacket but I don't like the color and the fit is too roomy for me. I prefer the Patagonia Triolet even though it's heavier, or the Patagonia Alpinist (which they discontinued). As it is I have about 4 inches extra room below my bicepts. The extra arm fabric is actually pretty cumbersome for technical climbing IMO. Good for skiing bc it breaths really well. Like the 2-way zip for glacier travel over a harness. You'll stay dry in driving rain and still be able to ventilate without getting wet.

Perfect Bad Weather Running Companion

This is an excellent jacket to keep you warm and protected from the elements during winter and shoulder season runs. I took it out during an ice storm a few weeks ago and with my micro spikes and this, I was warm and protected. Love the way that the hood stays secure.

Light, waterproof and athletic fit

I've run in this jacket 5-6 times now- including twice in the rain and can attest to its waterproof claims. The fit is nice and athletic - can wear a layer or two if needed, but not too baggy over a tee. The sleeves hit right at the end of my wrists- over my watch no problem, but also have elastic if you want them to sit higher. I am 5'8", a typical size 4 and the Small is perfect. It is a no frills jacket- just one simple chest pocket that is large enough for a cell phone but I don't find the placement comfortable for heavier items. It's perfect for your dog bags, key fob, very small pair of gloves. The elastic for the hood is VERY snug- I wore the hood up over a brimmed hat in the rain and found the collar rubbing up under my nose. When I unzipped it slightly the elastic is still strong enough to pull the collar up even with my mouth- I know the design is to be lightweight but an option to adjust tension would be great. If I were to make this jacket perfect, I would add a vent and maybe built in hand covers- because the pocket is small there isn't a place to put any mitts or gloves. I also find it runs warm- wearing it low 30s to mid-40s I only need a T-shirt underneath it and have had to unzip to dump heat.

Excellent light rain cover for mountaineering or hiking. Fits a helmet under the hood and the pockets are on the chest so you can wear your harness without impeding them. Also the colors are rad and stand out in the snow.
