Why We Like The TX2 Evo Approach Shoe
La Sportiva's TX2 Evo Approach shoe is a light and airy choice for long approaches to far-out climbs. Its polyester upper has rubber randing to bolster its support around our feet while also offering breathability. The light synthetic fabric also makes it incredibly easy to squish into our bags for when we need to strap into the real climbing shoes. Of course, we can't forget the Vibram Mega-Grip outsole: this strong rubber compound acts like a magnet to the ground below to ensure slipping is a thing of the past.
Customer feedback suggests this shoe runs small, we would suggest sizing up if you are unused to a tight performance fit.

If at all possible, try the shoe on before purchasing it. I ultimately returned this shoe due to the very narrow fit. I think I have to accept that La Sportiva shoes are just not made for a wider foot. It felt very constricted against the outside of my foot and seemed like hiking in it would lead to lots of blisters. I also felt there was a very uncomfortable bump under the big toe mound (a problem I also had with La Sportiva's katana climbing shoe). I also agree with the review saying the shoe is very hard to get on. I can see how the sock-like design would keep out debris, but it needs some kind of loop to pull the heel side back. Combined with the lightweight material of the upper, it felt like I was going to tear it whenever I put the shoe on. Since I was never actually able to try these shoes for their intended application, it feels like I can't really give it one star.

Very impressed with how confident I feel climbing in these and the weight penalty is small for long days of climbing. On my third pair.

New "evo" version is awful
- Familiarity:
- I returned this product before using it
The tongue is gusseted but lacks enough stretchability (or extra folded fabric) to get the shoe on without. If you can get it on without ripping it, the shoe fits very long and very narrow. The shoe very lightweight and packable, but it is nearly impossible to get on. Black Diamond Missions are a better alternative.

Do It All Approach Shoe!

Having worn the original TX2's for several years, I was interested to see what the new updates would be like. I'm very happy with the full knit sock style upper. It breathes extremely well and is very comfortable. You can loosely tie the laces and the shoe still functions while being able to slip on and off, perfect for jumping between climbs at the crag. I also use this shoe for long days scrambling on easier terrain, which is where it really excels in my opinion. Great sticky rubber and supportive sole for sustained time on rock.
