Why We Like The La Sportiva Mandala Climbing Shoe

The La Sportiva Mandala Climbing Shoe is for fancy footwork. Featuring No-Edge technology that brings us closer to the rock and Vibram XS Grip2 rubber that is ultra sticky yet still firm enough for lasting performance, this pair has us trusting our feet on sections we once called blank. The rounded toe conforms to the texture of the rock, while the narrow heel and large toe patch bring a new level of precision and security to our hooks.

Fascinating New Shoe

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
Size Bought:
46
Height:
5' 11"
Weight:
225

Being heavier than most other climbers, soft shoes like the Ondra Comp don't work for me nearly as well as stiffer shoes like the Skwama and now these Mandalas. Got them in my usual size of 46. As soon as you get used to "smedging" small features, you delight in how sticky these shoes are; grabbing the feature not trying to edge on it's top. For me, the forefoot of these shoes fits more comfortably than the Ondra Comp; and again, I like the extra stiffness up front. These just may be my favorite La Sportiva climbing shoes ever. FWIW, the build quality is outstanding and they look great, too. I think if La Sportiva wasn't trying to promote the niche of "No Edge" these shoes could end up in the pantheon of great La Sportiva designs, alongside the Solution, Skwama, TC Pro, Miura VS, etc. Could not possibly recommend them more highly to you.

Nearly perfect shoes!

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer
Size Bought:
42

Climbed in these for just over a month now and I love them. Climbed in the old genius for about 6 months, and was stoked to hear about this model. Toe box is super comfy, nearly as comfortable as the older mantra. Only thing that is lacking for me is the heel, I wish they would’ve gone with more of a skwama/solution comp heel but it will just take some more getting used to. Overall they’re an easy recommend at least for the gym, putting them on granite on the weekend!

Great addition to No-Edge line

Fit is pretty similar to the Solution Comp and performs similar to the Genius. The shoe has some nice sensitivity to feel out the footholds, but still has the support that is crucial for me to launch off insecure feet. Definitely will be my go-to for bouldering and was amazing to use at Joe's Valley.
