Why We Like The Hestra Army Leather Heli Mitten
Hestra knows our backcountry missions are as much about the journey up as the powder hunt on the way down. Whether we're hoofing it solo up the skintrack or catching a ride with a guide, Hestra's Army Leather Heli Mitten was designed for each moment on the mountain. The tough, weather-resistant Triton fabric blocks the breeze and repels moisture from each angle, and the added strength of the Army goat leather ensures seasons of wear. A removable liner adds warmth on icy morning rides, or we can ditch the outer shell for our sweaty climb up the hill.

Adult son game my 12 year old granddaughter these mittens for Xmas because as a snowboarder he swears by them. Kid had a broken fibula and once off her boot she gingerly went snowboarding. Mittens leather IMMEDIATELY began to fail in spite of the fact that I had conditioned them per instructions. A trip to Colorado the following month continued to deteriorate the leather. Reached out to customer service and after almost TWO months when I finally reached out asking what the delay was with their response. Here’s their lame response “what is shown on your images fast under wear and tear therefore not eligible under warranty.” What the ham and eggs 😡?! We are talking about wearing them maybe 4 times and the leather is failing?! Don’t waste your money. Better off buying something cheap and probably having better luck.

My hands are always cold... even in my old pair of Hestra's. The Army Heli mittens are very warm, and I love that the liner is removable and washable. I am a woman and tried the women's style, but they were too tight on my hand. These are perfect.

These are a well made pair of mittens. I ordered them in 11 based on my hand measurement at 10.5 They are super warm. Haven't tested out the water resistance. I marked them as "Runs Small" for product fit. They are perfect on my left hand but on my right, they are very snug where my thumb attaches to my hand. Tight to the point of uncomfortable if I wore them for a significant amount of time. Maybe I just have a stupid big thumb? Overall, very nice pair of gloves.

I've heard a lot of high praise of Hestras and finally decided to spend the money on a nice pair. So far they have stood up to the expectations. I get super cold and these mittens are very good at warming my hands up. Even if I leave them in my cold car I can put them on and they will quickly warm up my hands. The removable liner is super convenient for washing and the outer shell is very durable and the waterproof capabilities on these are insanely good - my hands have been nowhere near getting wet. I use these when driving (although they are definitely a little bulky for that) and skiing. If you are not planning on using these gloves in the snow then I wouldn't recommend them just because the wrists are designed to be super large to keep out snow so it would look super bulky if you were wearing these gloves without a bigger jacket. They also come with wrist attachments which are super convenient so that you can take them off while on the ski lift and not worry about them falling to the ground. For sizing I measured my hands and ordered to the recommended size and they were true to fit (size 8).

Haven't worn them skiing yet but the Mitts are top notch quality. You get what you pay for! I have extremely sensitive hands due to a hand accident, lost the tip of my finger in snow blower accident and these seem to keep hand warm in extreme conditions. Not sure what they are like in rain or snow and cold but so far so good.
