A bar countertop displays a tall glass of gin rickey with ice and a lime wheel, a blue bottle of High West Mountain Gin, an empty bottle of club soda, a jigger, and a fresh lime, set against shelves of liquor bottles; large text reads "Gin Ricky" and the top shows High West Distillery and Backcountry logos.

High West Wednesdays: Gin Ricky

A quenching summer cocktail, inspired by gravel biking

Jump to the recipe.

We’re not saying you should pound a Gin Rickey before your next gravel ride, but we’re definitely in favor of savoring one when the day’s miles are done. Our latest cocktail adventure from High West celebrates rides that unfold far from city noise, where ribbons of unpredictable unpaved roads wind through farmland, forests, or open plains. We grin when it’s gritty, because today we’re raising a glass to gravel.

This cocktail recipe keeps things simple. It’s a drink that’s serene like hearing the rhythmic click of every gear shift, and it’s clean like the crisp mountain air of the very best rides. There’s no sweetener to take the edge off, but that’s because the spirit at its center is as smooth as the well-maintained hardpack of your dreams. Made with Utah juniper and a handful of other alpine herbs local to the Wasatch, High West’s Mountain Gin gives the old London dry style an adventurous spin. When paired with fresh lime juice and a splash of club soda, this clean and crisp spirit becomes a cool, refreshing quencher.

Ingredients

Makes one.
2 oz High West Mountain Gin
0.5 oz freshly squeezed lime juice
Club soda

Instructions

  1. Add gin and lime juice to a Collins glass over ice.
  2. Top with club soda.
  3. Garnish with lime.

Not all gravel rides are created equal. And not all gins are either. That’s why High West’s top-shelf juniper-forward Mountain Gin stars in this crisp, zesty bev. Whether you sip this Gin Rickey while planning your next bikepacking adventure or whip it up post ride, we hope you enjoy the spirit of gravel in every sip.

A person squatting sitting at a campsite holds a navy blue flask labeled "High West" in her hand, with camping gear visible in the background; handwritten text above reads "A flask full o' mountain gin ;)" and an arrow points to the flask. To the right, a close-up of a tall glass filled with a gin rickey cocktail, topped with ice and a lime wheel, sits beside a whole lime on a wooden surface; the image features illustrated white line art of an elk saying "Yummy" and a mountain goat on a cliff.
