Hyperion Max 3 Running Shoe delivers max-speed energy return and rapid transitions for daily training

What Our Gearhead® Experts Are Saying:

"I grab the Hyperion Max 3 when I want to feel fast—even on a tough training day. It’s super light, crazy responsive, and the rocker geometry helps me stay quick on turnover. The SpeedVault plate and DNA cushioning give it a race-day feel without sacrificing comfort."

When we want our daily training miles to feel like race day, we lace up the Brooks Hyperion Max 3 Running Shoe. Designed for speed-focused athletes, this high-stack shoe features the best of Brooks’ energy return tech, so we can push harder, recover faster, and stay on pace whether we’re doing tempo work or long intervals.

A responsive combo of 100% PEBA DNA GOLD and DNA FLASH v2 cushioning provides lightweight propulsion and soft landings, while the SpeedVault plate amplifies toe-off for snappy forward motion. The RapidRoll Rocker makes transitions fast and efficient, and the lightweight mesh upper locks down the foot without overheating. Whether we're building volume or sharpening for a peak race, the Hyperion Max 3 brings high-performance energy to every stride.

Here's what customers have to say

The shoes offer excellent cushioning and responsiveness, providing a "bouncy" and "cloud-like" underfoot feel with great energy return. The lightweight, breathable upper and snug, sock-like fit offer good comfort and heel lockdown. However, some users found the shoes to be heavier and clunkier than the previous model, with a restrictive toe box and stability issues. The transition and ride of the shoe also received mixed feedback. Overall, the shoes work well for some runners but may not be suitable for everyone, especially those with wider feet or stability concerns.

Race Day Shoe-A New Marathoner's Best Friend

I just ran my first marathon in the Hyperion Max 3! For context, I ran my marathon in 4:11:22, I am 5'11" 173 pounds. I had done all of my speed work training in the Hyperion Max 2 this year and really enjoyed the feel of them so I was excited for the next evolution of the shoe. Because I did all of my long runs in the Ghost Max 2's, the weight of the Hyperion Max 3 didn't bother me, as it was heavier than the Hyperion Max 2 but lighter than the Ghosts by a significant margin. This is NOT a stability shoe. The stack height is very tall so if you're a little worried about ankle stability, stay away. But if you want to go fast and have a shoe underneath you that can help propel you forward as the miles drag on in a race, I really loved this one. The laces are softer than the Max 2 so you don't have to worry about hot spots or tightness there. The rocker underneath is aggressive and propels you forward in a really nice way. This shoe is not carbon plated, but has a nylon plate so if you're looking for something less aggressive than a super shoe with some super shoe benefit, this might be a good option for you. I love these!

Great for someone who doesn’t need a stability shoe.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] These shoes feel fast, which is fantastic. The cushion is plush, and the look is so sweet. My problem though is I need more of a stability shoe for running and when I ran with this, I felt like I was going to roll my ankle just about anytime I wasn’t on perfectly flat open concrete. All of that to say, if you’re somebody who needs a stability shoe, follow the ratings that Brooks provides on their products!

Feels unstable

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Comfortable shoe. Very light for the amount of cushion you get. The DNA Gold foam is very responsive and has one of the best energy return feels out there. I love the sock fit upper, fits very snug and isn’t bulky or hot. My biggest complaint is the cut out on the outsole. The location makes this shoe feel unstable and makes me feel like I am fighting an aggressive pronation. This causes me to unintentionally alter my stride thus leading to poor form. Love the shoe, just wish that cutout was more centered to provide a bit more of a stable feel

#Winning!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] These have been amazing! I wear them running and in recovery mode. I was doubtful at first given the thickness, but stuck with them. I love them. I have several pair of racing shoes and recovery shoes from Brooks, Adidas and Craft. For my recovery shoes, these are the #winner hands down! I would never give these up. My feet would not be happy with me if these were not in my rotation!!

Exactly what I wanted in a plated trainer!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I LOVE these. I have a different brand of played shoe for races but wanted a plated trainer that I could do long runs and training runs in. These were exactly what I was looking for. The cushion is perfect without being too heavy. They are fairly stable even with a high stack height. The plate provides a great bounce. There are small details like a padded lace area (where the tongue would be expect its a sock type upper) that really make them extremely comfortable. Longest run in them was 20mi and I have nothing but good things to say about them.

In Love With These Running Shoes!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My husband loves these running shoes. He has about 50 pair of running shoes for all different mileage and these are his long distance running “go to” shoes. We just ran the Marine Corps Marathon and he wore these… not one single complaint. He loves them!

PB and very comfortable

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Have had mixed experiences with Brooks. These HM3 shoes have been excellent. Multiple PBs in the 5km. Very comfortable fit. I have wide foot and they fit well, although not a true wide shoe. Definitely recommend

After using Brooks for the last 10 years;. Sole came put in less than a year or 100miles, these are the worst running shoes I've had.
