Why We Like The Storm 500-R Headlamp
Black Diamond is enhancing its Storm headlamp lineup with the new R-Series lamps. This particular Storm 500-R Headlamp is a high-lumen and multi-mode lamp that gives us the power to fully illuminate our nights with nine different lighting modes and the potential for 5H of charge time at the highest setting. We really like that the Repreve headband stops that uncomfortable, hair-pulling sensation we often get with cheaper headlamps.

Blinding Battery Indicator
I was excited to buy a new Black Diamond until I tried one out. The blue battery indicator LEDs on the bottom of the housing temporarily blinded me when powering off the light, especially after using the red light. It takes ~10 seconds for my eyes to re-adjust to the darkness. Very disorienting. I was constantly having to stand still and wait for my eyes to re-adjust from the blinding. Glad I have an older ReVolt model but won't be upgrading.

Best Hiking Lamp!
This is the best hiking lamp for almost everyone. I’ve gone down the rabbit hole of testing and trial using most of the mid-range and few high range head lamps. The storm beats them out on pretty much every feature. The battery lasts way longer than most headlamps out there. The option to go to red and adjust lighting is perfect for letting your eyes adjust for stars that night. It’s a super lightweight package. I’d recommend it to anyone trying to find a headlamp to just purchase this one because it’s the perfect fit for almost everyone.

Battery is not replaceable.
Love this headlamp, but, the battery is getting weak. I just discovered that it is not replaceable. seems like a waste to throw out a headlamp over a weak battery.

Worthy of PNW Forests
Searched for a headlamp light enough for comfort, long-lasting enough to avoid recharge on long adventures, and sturdy enough to be tossed around during load/unload. Also needed to be affordable. This one is perfect.

Great headlamp
Super awesome headlamp, reliable and just as described, albeit it is definitely heavier than I expected. Felt heavier than the non-rechargeable counterpart. Still totally worth it if looking for a rechargeable headlamp!

Fantastic little headlamp!
So far, this headlamp has been great. I love being able to charge it in my car on the way up the mountains or with a portable battery. It can get super bright but it’s also dimmable so it doesn’t have to blind everyone. All in all, I really like it.

Luxury headlamp for the price
I've had a lot of headlamps and this one is by far the best! Love all the different features. I was really skeptical about getting a rechargeable one vs battery operated, but so far so good.
