Versatile Alpine Softshell Glove for cold-weather climbing and belays

What Our Gearhead® Experts Are Saying:

"These gloves hit the sweet spot for climbing in cold weather. They’re warm without being bulky, and the leather palm grips rock and ropes really well. The seamless cuff slides easily under my jacket, and the touchscreen fingers mean I don’t have to strip down to check my phone or GPS. A solid choice for alpine missions."

When we’re chasing lines above treeline or holding a chilly belay, the Black Diamond Alpine Softshell Glove is always within reach. Lightly insulated with PrimaLoft Gold Cross Core, this glove provides just the right amount of warmth for active pursuits without sacrificing dexterity. A fleece lining adds comfort for cold nights at camp, while the stretch-woven softshell construction with PFC-free DWR keeps wind and light snow at bay.

A full goatskin leather palm ensures long-lasting durability and a secure grip on ropes, tools, or trekking poles. The seamless, low-profile cuff construction fits neatly under layers for a technical feel, while Bemis Versafilm bonding delivers precision and flexibility where it matters most. With thoughtful features like touchscreen-compatible fingertips, pull loops, and a pairing clip, the Alpine Softshell Glove keeps us equipped for everything from alpine climbs to backcountry approaches.

Lightweight, strong, and warm. Held up great on my recent trip to Mount Baker.

Seem great, need to really use them to see

I got these as part of a quiver of gloves for a month in the Alps. I like how they feel after swapping larges for XL. I think they will be great. They have a snug cuff so not super easy on but I think I'll appreciate the fit in serious conditions.

Hard to pull on and not very water resistant

Most of the glove fits well but the cuff is so tight it’s hard to put on. When my hand was sweaty or damp I was literally using teeth to get the gloves on. I also wore these gloves in light rain and they soaked through.

Not made for wide hands

Fits well when on, but very hard to get your hand through the wrist band. Would not recommend for men with wide hands.

Comfortable and warm

Super warm but not bulky. The cuff sits under a jacket easily without being too hard too pull over your hand. Expensive but should last a long time

Best Cold Temperature Gloves

I was looking for THE pair of gloves on the market to use for my winter camping trips, mountain expeditions and even for cold day walks. Those gloves are true workhorses at what they do. Super warm, fits perfectly and can be versatile.
