Alpine 3-Finger Mitt delivers belay-ready warmth with dexterity for the coldest climbs

What Our Gearhead® Experts Are Saying:

“These mitts are like a down belay parka for your hands. The 3-finger design gives you extra dexterity over a standard mitt, while the BD.dry insert keeps things waterproof and breathable. I reach for these when I’m ice climbing or doing alpine routes where frozen fingers aren’t an option.”

The Black Diamond Alpine 3-Finger Mittens are engineered for winter’s harshest conditions, combining expedition-level warmth with technical dexterity. Built around BD.dry™, Black Diamond’s waterproof and breathable membrane, these mitts lock out snow and wind while allowing heat and moisture to escape.

A goatskin leather palm with reinforced patches ensures durability against ropes, tools, and rock, while a plush recycled polyester sherpa fleece lining at the backhand keeps warmth close where you need it most. The unique 3-finger design strikes the balance between mitten-level insulation and glove-like control, giving climbers and alpinists the ability to handle ropes, carabiners, and tools without sacrificing warmth.

From frozen belays to storm-battered ridges, the quick-cinch cuff, carabiner loop, and pairing clip make these mitts as practical as they are protective. For climbers who demand dependable warmth with alpine functionality, the Alpine 3-Finger Mitt is a trusted cold-weather partner.

Fantastic for winter backpacking

I have spent years looking for gloves/mitts that keep my Raynaud's at bay while providing adequate dexterity. These mitts are absolutely fantastic, and are by far the best hand protection I've ever owned. I've used them on multiple winter backpacking trips where lows reached 14°F and my hands were warm and dry. Also great for ski patrol days. The sherpa fleece dries quickly. Has my highest recommendation.

Very warm and soft

So far, have used these for biking around 20 degrees F and they were more than warm enough without liner gloves. In fact, when I used a liner glove, my hands got sweaty. This is good: it gives me options depending on how cold it is. The inside is fleecy on the palm side and sherpa type on the back hand. The leather palms seems good quality and durable. Would be nice if they came with optional wrist straps for extra option when skiing. Obviously dexterity sacrificed compared to 5 finger gloves, but having index finger free does make a difference. I think it's a worthwhile sacrifice for extra warmth.
