Jammy Prusik delivers ultralight friction hitch performance with aramid core strength
What Our Gearhead® Experts Are Saying: "I use this on alpine missions and glacier travel. It’s lighter than a cord loop, bites better than a knot, and holds up to heat in long rappels. Super confidence-inspiring for how compact it is."
Whether we're building a lightweight crevasse rescue kit or adding friction backup on a rappel, the Beal Jammy Prusik is a key piece of gear we never leave behind. Its aramid core gives it the heat resistance and strength to bite into ropes with confidence, while the polyamide sheath provides supple handling that won’t tangle or seize when we're moving fast in alpine terrain.
We’ve been especially impressed by how the Jammy grips on ropes of varying diameters—even slick dry-treated ones—and still releases smoothly when we need it to. It's one of those small, essential pieces that earns its spot on every rope team.

Not Safe
- Familiarity:
- I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
After minimal use (maybe 6-8 raps?) the core was protruding from the sheath. Upon contacting Beal, they said there was nothing they could do. Highly recommend choosing something else.

Garbage!
- Familiarity:
- I've put it through the wringer
The core pops out of the sheet without even being used, right next to the stitching if it is bent right there. Happened to several of them same way, same spot just sitting on our harnesses.

Wish there was some clarity on country of origin. Thought Beal products were made in France. No thanks.

Rated at 22KN - versatile as sling
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
- Size Bought:
- short
The short one is always on my harness as my autoblock/prusik. This is rated to 22KN, so unlike a 5mm cord, you can use it as a sling in a pinch. I had to construct a trad anchor with limited gear and used this to basket a chock for a bomber first piece. Dump your 5mm cord and add one of these to your harness.
