Why We Built The Backcountry Wolverine Cirque Insulated Pant
"These insulated pants were made for the backcountry, but they slip into my multi-sport wardrobe with ease. Basically anywhere I need some extra warmth, these pants go with me." —Gearhead® Expert Jessie
Some days we just need tights under our shells, but when temperatures at the resort drop, we rock the Backcountry Wolverine Cirque Insulated Pant under our snow pants. These warm layering pants boast Primaloft Gold Active insulation that traps heat while releasing moisture, full-length 2-way zippers on each leg that allow us to control our personal climate as temperatures fluctuate, and a 3/4-length that sits just above our ski or snowboard boot for coverage and comfort. While all this boosts our comfort on hill, we really love that the nylon and fleece combination offers an aprés-ready look that lets us go straight from pow turns to the evening festivities.

INCREDIBLE
- Familiarity:
- I've put it through the wringer
I get cold sometimes, especially when I mostly wear a baselayer and a shell bib when I am touring. This piece is either on or in my pack almost 100% of the time. This piece is absolutely perfectly designed with zippers on both sides that allow me to put on and take off without having to remove my bibs. Being 3/4 cut comes right down to the top of my ski boot or winter boot. Absolutely obsessed.

Dumb design update
Don't buy. Dumb update on the design. These have a zipper that runs the full length of the legs. This adds a lot of unnecessary bulk. Previous version had a smaller thin zipper vent on the thigh. I wish I got my money back cuz they are uncomfortable when layered.

what I was looking for

These work great - keep my legs and butt warm without the gathering at the board or ski boot. I use these with electric socks and the zipper at the bottom provides good access to the sock control button. I've used it in 4F to 45F and been very happy with it. Fits fine under my bib but not under a pair of jeans.

ended up returning the pants

zippers way too bulky, we’re digging into my hips. material did seem to be good quality. probably would have kept if there were no zippers and a better draw string

Great concept. Almost great execution.
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
- Size Bought:
- Tried large. Ended up with medium
They did the job of added warmth for sure. I feel like the full length sealed zippers are unnecessary. They seem to fold over a bit and wrinkle. Just not necessary. But the concept of warmth at the thighs at seat is real nice.

Not durable

After only a couple wears under ski shell bibs, the insulation is coming through the thigh fabric. Disappointed as I like the product but cannot recommend for durability.

Long live the puffy pants!
These pants are awesome. Just wore them in 0’degrees (wind chill of -12F) while working a ski race. The only part of my body that didn’t get cold was my legs. Sure the draw string sucked, but everything else works great. Long live the puffy pants!
