Why We Like The Astral Hiyak Shoe
One of Astral's best sellers, the Hiyak Shoe lets us paddle in a lightweight package that replaces toxic neoprene with a 3mm quilted airmesh for insulation that's easier on the planet. The abrasion-resistant nylon construction is quick to both drain and dry, while a hook-and-loop strap hides the laces for a secure, snag-free fit. This water shoe also features a grippy Flex Grip outsole made for wet environments, a more natural fit with a wider toe box, and a zero heel-to-toe drop that encourages us to walk with more of a barefoot style.

Here's what customers have to say
The water shoes are generally well-received, with many praising their comfort, grip, and versatility for a variety of water activities. Customers found the shoes to be comfortable and supportive, with good ankle protection and a flexible sole. However, some reported issues with durability, such as stitching and material ripping. A few also noted the shoes can be slippery on wet, algae-covered rocks, and suggested sizing up, especially when wearing with a drysuit. Overall, the shoes seem to be a popular choice for water-based activities, despite some concerns about their long-term durability.

Comfortable booty alternative!
I didn't believe when the description said they're as warm as booties, but boy was I wrong! They're just as warm as the standard NRS bootie, but so much more comfortable, and they look way better too. They have a very similar feel to minimalist shoes, so just know they don't offer a ton of protection in the sole. The upside to that is they'll fit better in your kayak than the Rassler.

Comfortable river wear
Very comfortable , for Cold Water/neoprene sock a size larger is good. My use is primarily on Sierra white water, its very rocky ground and my foot needed a stiff insole to protect from rocky bottoms and banks . 20 plus days use and wearing well . A recommended foot ware

Solid shoe
Wore them for a majority of the water rescue work I did when deployed to Florida and North Carolina with my USAR team. They were comfortable and grip was fantastic. Did not have any issues, easy to get on and off. Would recommend.

Small sizing
The sizing was quite a bit smaller than my other astrals but I feel like sizing up would be too big

Comfortable water shoe
Comfortable, warm shoe with excellent grip. Perfect for my canoe trips. The high shaft ensures a firm fit and cushions the ankle.

Size up for drysuit booties. Great fit!
Great comfortable, grippy shoe, fits perfectly. I have 2 pairs, one a size up for drysuit booties. Definitely go a size up for layers!

Lovin' my Astral Hiyak's!
Have used them twice. Once a river trip and once doing a survey job in a river. Great gripping, good support and high ankle protection. A comfortable shoe that can be worn all day.

Superior Grip!
The Hiyak's are my go to sailing shoes in breeze over 15knots. The ankle support is second to none, superior grip, light weight and dry out quickly. Theres not much not to like about these shoes!
