Why We Like The Astral Brewer 2 Water Shoe
Kayakers will find a lot of versatility with the Astral Men's Brewer 2 Water Shoe on or off the water. Its hydrophobic polyester sidewalls ensure long-lasting durability and abrasion resistance, and the Airmesh vamp and tongue allow airflow to help your feet dry quickly. A drainage at the front sidewall and a slit at the heel direct water out of your shoe every time you leave the river, and the Balanced Geometry EVA midsole cradles your foot so you can cover technical terrain easier. To top it off, the Granite Grip sole provides excellent traction on wet rocks and slippery bar floors.

The water shoes are generally well-liked for their great grip, comfort, and versatility, making them suitable for water sports. Many praise the excellent traction on wet surfaces, but some note issues with durability, with the soles coming apart after a few months. A few also found the midfoot area too narrow, especially for those with wider feet. Overall, the shoes are considered a top-notch option, praised for their versatility, comfort, and traction, though there are some concerns about long-term durability.

Good deck shoes
Good quality. Great traction on boat decks. Wife’s pair are now in their third season with no hardening of the soles. They run narrow over the forefoot, which causes a fit problem for me.

My everyday sneakers
I've had quite a few pairs of Astral shoes, and the Brewer is my daily driver during spring and summer. I like the breathability and grip that they provide when I am on the water or in town. The wider toe box and zero drop midsole gives them an excellent fit.

Tore within a week
Poor quality - the edges started to rip with just a couple of uses. Once wet, did not dry for nearly 2 days and had the ‘wet stink’. Very disappointed

comfy water shoe that looks like a sneaker!
These shoes were great for the water - their maiden voyage was white water rafting and they did great- and looked great too! I wouldn’t use them for extensive mileage but they will be perfect for whatever water adventure is next on the list!

Favorite Boat Shoe!
These shoes are the best boat shoes I have owned. They fit snugly without socks which is perfect for monkeying around my boat. Never has such grip with a non-marking tread. They dry quick if I remember to rinse the salt water off. I like the soft inside too. Would buy again! Maybe I'll size up for socks in the fall.

I've owned 3 pairs of Brewer 2.0s and have a pair of Rasslers. I've used them to commercially guide, run class V, done mutli-week trips in them, etc. I have a love/hate relationship with Astral shoes. They are super functional, are comfy, grip fairly well in wet conditions, dry pretty fast, can be worn without socks, can be slid into like a slipper, etc. Feature wise I don't really have any complaints. I'd argue there is nothing on the market as good as Astral shoes for whitewater now that 5.10 stopped making water shoes. My one qualm is their durability. They don't last that long. My bedrocks sandals last 5-10 times as long as my Brewers in similar conditions. They just fall apart at certain seems. I had a friend get his reinforced by a local shoe repair place in Ecuador. After reinforcement they looked like they'd last way longer. Astral really needs to make a version that has reinforcement for commercial/rigorous use. Until something better comes on the market I'll continue to buy Astrals. But I do wish they'd last longer. If you plan to run serious whitewater I'd recommend the Rasslers. They stay on a bit better due to their height. They are a bit stiffer though so can be a bit harder to fit into tight boats in comparison to the Brewers.
