Men's Smarty 3-in-1
I'll start with the fact that I have not skied with this coat yet. I have owned a 686 coat for about 20 years and it has worn well with many great features. Way ahead of it's time. So, I wanted another. I bought this on sale with no possibility of return. I tried my sons XL coat size (different model) to determine my size and chose XL also. I'm 6'0, 44 chest 36 sleeves, Fit is good, but generous, especially the sleeves, which are true to the 38. 5 advertised. Overall, probably a little larger XL than my son's. Finish and look are very good. My only complaints so far are: 1) the powder skirt cannot be used with the liner coat zipped in. 686 product support says you cannot zip the liner in if you want to use the skirt. This is very strange and would probably be a deal breaker for me if I could return it. 2) This coat does not have lycra wrist gaiters. While not advertised as having such, I don't know why 686 doesn't put those in every ski coat. That being said, the sleeves are so long, it matters less. 3) It does not have a two-way zipper. All coats, especially ski coats, should have a two-way zipper. Period! 4) One of the pockets was not sewn properly and I had to repair. I'm hopeful that this coat will perform well next season. It was a great end-of-season price and appears to be as good quality as my old coat. The powder skirt situation is a major design flaw that dropped this four star coat by one star.

Awesome 3 in 1!
- Familiarity:
- I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
- Size Bought:
- M
Purchased this for my growing teenage son. He's a lanky 6'1" and thought that he would wear a L. After reading reviews, I purchased a M and it's roomy enought that he can grow another few inches and it will still fit. He loves the liner jacket and wears it around town on a regular basis. It will be great for spring snowboarding. The outer jacket is warm enough and with the liner and insulated layers, he's set for windy, sub zero days on the mountain.

Great quality
Comfortable, lightweight, keeps you warm. Just the liner jacket alone is plenty warm and stylish to wear when not riding.

Awesome Jacket, terrible fit
honestly one of the nicest jackets I've owned in 30 years. todays trend is to wear things a little baggy so I expected it a little but the sleeves reach almost to my finger tips. the arms are just too long. I also ordered the matching 3:1 pants. Same story about quality, thats great, but I could even get them buttoned up. those were way too small, Felt like they were size small not large. I had to send the pants back but I could deal with the oversized jacket

A success buy
Warm enough in cold weather, 20F is fine. Easy to take off the inner layer if temperature is not that low, e. g. , 32F 5'7" 160lbs, by the size shart, I would need to buy size M. But I picked S. It is still a little little big for me. I can't imagine how big the M would be.

Warm, versatile and stylish
This jacket is a great option regardless of the price point. All three configurations work in every weather condition, and I've not needed to use anything more than the jacket and a light base layer from Colorado, to California, to North Carolina skiing. It fits correctly, and I even use the liner during the off season. I highly recommend this jacket as the only one you'll need! The only issue is that the thumb catch/keeper on the sleeve of the outer jacket detached within the first two days of riding. However, it was not enough of an issue to warrant sending back.
